Companies that market bottled water as being safer than tap water are defrauding the American public. - The U.S. FDA

Bottled water has become a multi-billion dollar business… now the fastest growing segment of the entire beverage industry… and the most profitable of all beverages.

Millions and millions of dollars are spent each week on advertising campaigns to give consumers the perception that bottled water comes from some pristine mountain spring or magical underground aquifer. The truth is that bottled water is often little more than tap water in a bottle.

The Federal regulations that govern bottled water only apply if it is transported across state lines, and then only require it to be “as good as” tap water. Most bottled water is bottled and sold within the same state to avoid regulations. There are no assurances or requirements that bottled water is of any higher quality than tap water.

In March of 1999, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) released a report called “Bottled Water, Pure Drink or Pure Hype?” NRDC’s report points out that as much as 40% of all bottled water comes from a city water system, just like tap water. The report also focuses on the fact that 60 to 70% of all bottled water is exempt from FDA’s bottled water standards, because it is bottled and sold within the same state. Unless the water is transported across state lines, there are no federal regulations that govern its quality. According to the NRDC, “bottled water companies have used this loophole to avoid complying with basic health standards, such as those that apply to municipally treated tap water.” Also, all carbonated or sparkling waters are completely exempt from FDA guidelines that set specific contamination limits.

According to the NRDC study, “even when bottled waters are covered by FDA’s specific bottled water standards, those rules are weaker in many ways than EPA rules that apply to big city tap water.” For instance, if we compare EPA regulations for tap water to FDA’s bottled water rules: (these examples are quotes from the NRDC report)

City tap water can have no confirmed E.coli or fecal coliform bacteria. FDA bottled water rules include no such prohibition (a certain amount of any type of coliform bacteria is allowed in bottled water).

City tap water, from surface water, must be filtered and disinfected. In contrast, there are no federal filtration or disinfection requirements for bottled water.

Most cities using surface water have had to test for Cryptosporidium or Giardia, two common water pathogens, that can cause diarrhea and other intestinal problems, yet bottled water companies do not have to do this.

City tap water must meet standards for certain important toxic or cancer-causing chemicals, such as phthalate (a chemical that can leach from plastic, including plastic bottles); some in the industry persuaded FDA to exempt bottled water from the regulations regarding these chemicals.

City water systems must issue annual “right to know” reports, telling consumers what is in their water. Bottlers successfully killed a “right to know” requirement for bottled water.

The Natural Resources Defense Council report concluded that, “Therefore, while much tap water is indeed risky, having compared available data, we conclude that there is no assurance that bottled water is any safer than tap water.”

The reality of bottled water is that people pay from $1 to $4 a gallon for the perception of higher quality, when in fact, the quality of bottled water is at best “unknown”!

Point-of-Use water treatment, with a quality in home water filtration system, is by far the most economical, the most convenient and the most capable of producing the highest quality water. Filtering out the chlorine, lead and other contaminants with a quality home water filtration system, at the point of use, just prior to consumption, is the only way to know for sure about the quality of your water.

Aquasana provides water that is higher in quality than any bottled water, for only 9 cents/gal… GUARANTEED!

And the list goes on and on!

The fact is that today in our industrialized society we use over 75,000 toxic chemicals, and over 1000 new ones are developed each year. We have learned the hard way that any chemical we use will eventually wind up in the water we drink. There is no “new water,” the planet just keeps reusing and recycling the same water over and over. Our water treatment plants are not designed to remove these synthetic chemicals, and as a result we find traces of health-threatening contaminants in most of our public water supplies.

Seventy years ago, before we had this multitude of chemical compounds in our environment, 1 in 50 people could expect to get cancer in his or her life time. Today, 1 in 3 Americans,1 in 2 males, will become cancer statistics! Cancer is a man-made disease, and almost completely preventable. The purity of our water is one of the most important factors in the prevention of degenerative disease. With the risk so great and the solution so simple, why take the chance? In-home water filtration is the easiest, most effective and most economical way to have safe, healthy water for you and your family.

Aquasana makes healthy water affordable and convenient. The AQ-4000 is certified by the California Department of Health Services, the most rigorous certification entity in the world, to remove greater than 99% of alachlor, benzene, lindane, TCE, THMs, cryptosporidium, giardia, and VOCs, more than 97% of atrazine, and more than 93% of MTBE. Removal of benzene, atrazine, MTBE, VOC, cyst and THM is unique to the Aquasana AQ-4000. It performs better, has a more attractive design and, at $.09/gallon, the AQ-4000 is much more economical to use than a pour-through pitcher filter!

“We are quite convinced, based on this study, that there is an association between cancer and chlorinated water.” Medical College of Wisconsin, Senior Research Team

The addition of chlorine to our water began in the late 1800s and by 1904 was the standard in water treatment, and for the most part remains so today.

We don’t use chlorine because it’s the safest or even the most effective means of disinfection; we use it because it is the cheapest. In spite of all our technological advances, we essentially still pour bleach into our water prior to use. The long-term effects of using chlorinated water have just recently been documented.

It is not uncommon to find more chlorine in tap water than is recommended safe for a swimming pool. A simple chlorine test kit from the local discount department store, around $6.00, will typically yield surprising results, Try it!

According to the U.S. Council of Environmental Quality, “Cancer risk among people using chlorinated water is as much as 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine.”

There is a lot of well-founded concern about chlorine. When chlorine is added to our water, it combines with other natural compounds to form trihalomethanes (chlorination byproducts), or THMs. These chlorine byproducts trigger the production of free radicals in the body, causing cell damage, and are highly carcinogenic. Chlorine is also suspected of contributing to hardening of the arteries, the primary cause of heart disease.

“We are learning the hard way that all the time we thought we were preventing epidemics of one disease, we were creating another. Two decades after the start of chlorinating our drinking water the present epidemic of heart trouble and cancer began.”
-Joseph M. Price, PhD

“One common factor among women with breast cancer is that they all have 50-60% higher levels of these chlorination byproducts (THMs) in their fat tissue than women without breast cancer…”
BreastCancerFund.org

“Up to two-thirds of the harmful effects of chlorine are due to inhalation and skin absorption while showering.”
- The American Journal Of Public Health

“Benefits Of Shower Water Filters”

No one will argue that chlorine serves an important purpose, and that it is likely here to stay. The result of not using chlorine in our water would be outbreaks of water-borne disease like typhoid and cholera, as existed in the 1800s.

It is also clear and experts agree… that chlorine represents a very real and serious threat to our health and should be removed both from the water we drink and the water we shower with. In-home water filtration can easily and affordably take the risks of chlorine out of your water, at the point of use… just prior to consumption.

Aquasana gets the chlorine out of your drinking and shower water!

As if we didn’t have enough worries about the quality of our drinking water, we now find that antibiotics, growth hormones and many prescription drugs are being detected in our public and private water systems. It’s not a very pleasant thought, but on the average… about 10% of the water we drink has been used before.

The same amount of water that exists on this planet today… existed millions of years ago… to the drop! There is no such thing as new water. Our planet continuously recycles and re-uses this finite supply of water. Only recently have we learned how fragile and finite our water resources really are. We are finding traces of compounds in our water that no one ever thought to look for before. We have finally realized that any chemical used in our society will eventually wind up in our drinking water

While the current focus by the media on tap water problems has raised long overdue concerns, it is not a new issue. In 1999, a 17-year-old West Virginia high school student, Ashley Mulroy, read a report in a science magazine describing how European scientists had recently discovered that “drugs of all kinds, including antibiotics, were flowing in rivers, streams, ground water and even in tap water” and decided to embark on a science project of her own. Over a ten-week period Ashley and her mother drove for miles along the Ohio River taking samples of the water from different sites. She then returned to her hometown and had the samples tested for three common antibiotics: penicillin, tetracycline and vancomycin… to her surprise she found traces of all three in each of the samples she had taken. Ashley then sampled tap water in three near by towns. All three, including water from the drinking fountain at her school, were contaminated with the antibiotics in question. Ashley was awarded several science project awards and more importantly opened the eyes of many U.S. scientists.

Researchers from the U.S. EPA and the National Geological Survey have now found traces of antibiotics, birth control drugs, anti-depressants and even caffeine in many water samples taken across the country. Large animal farming operations and wastewater treatment plants release billions of gallons of contaminated wastewater into our environment every day. A large percentage of the drugs that are given to humans and animals pass through the body and wind up in this recycled wastewater and then in our drinking water.

As early as 2000, USA Today, in a news release, stated that “experts fear that even low levels of antibiotics fouling the nations water supply may help create super-bugs: micro organisms that have evolved to survive an antibiotic’s lethal assault.” And that these super-bugs may be causing ‘tens of thousands’ of deaths each year in the U.S.A., according to Abigail Salyers, an expert on antibiotic resistance at the University of Illinois.

Christian Daughton, a Chief of Environmental Chemistry for the E.P.A., warns that “Water pollution by drugs is a newly emerging issue.” The reality is that there is little information on the long term effects of consuming low levels of antibiotics and growth hormanes, but everyone agrees that they will not be good.

Our public water treatment plants are not designed to remove drugs and other synthetic chemicals from our water. Without waiting for the final verdict on the actual effects of drinking a mixture of drugs and other chemicals… we can assume that they will be negative. The only question is… how negative and why wait?

Most all prescription drugs and pharmaceuticals are synthetic organic chemicals (SOCs) and volitile organic chemicals (VOCs) and can be filtered out with quality home water filtration. Look for systems that are certified for the reduction of VOCs and THMs to address this issue.

The only way to get truly healthful drinking water is to make it yourself with point of use water filtration.

Aquasana makes healthy water affordable and convenient.

Lead in drinking water is the #1 environmental health threat to children in the U.S. — U.S. EPANext to chlorine, lead is the most common contaminant found in tap water. Lead in drinking water usually originates somewhere between the water main in the street and the household faucet, so treatment from a central point is not logical or practical. Most lead in drinking water comes from lead lined pipes, lead solder and brass plumbing fixtures inside your home. All chrome-plated brass and brass plumbing fixtures contain 8% to 15% lead. The EPA estimates that 98% of all homes have pipes, fixtures or solder joints in the household plumbing that can leach some level of lead into the tap water.

It has been determined and recognized by the EPA that there is no safe level for lead in drinking water and that any level poses some degree of adverse health effects, especially to small children.

Even very low levels of lead can cause reduced IQs, learning disabilities and behavioral problems such as hypertension and reduced attention span in children. Often these effects are life long and irreversible.

Washington D.C., is the city that most recently announced that an aging delivery system has caused a lead contamination nightmare that has been poisoning people for many years. Some residents of the nation’s capital have as much as 400 ppb of lead in their tap water, more than 25 times the legal limit! Lead at this level is extremely detrimental to the health of the entire body and even more so to the bodies and minds of children.

One study, Baltimore MD, showed that children with high blood-lead levels had a significantly higher rate of problem behaviors than children with low blood levels and concluded with “this study lends support to the belief that undue exposure to lead in childhood years may have a pervasive influence on the prevalence of juvenile delinquency in this country.”
Read more about Water and Raising Small Children.

In adults, lead in drinking water causes high blood pressure and reduces hemoglobin production necessary for oxygen transport and interferes with normal cellular calcium metabolism. Water-borne lead affects every one in a very tragic and permanent way. Lead exposure is cumulative and long lasting. This toxic metal is stored by the body, primarily in teeth and bones.

Essentially, lead has a very damaging effect on the body’s electrical system, the nervous system. It causes the critical life-giving messages, sent from the brain to every cell and organ in our body, to become distorted. This results in the onset of a chain of adverse health effects.

It is estimated by the U.S. EPA that lead in drinking water contributes to 480,000 cases of learning disorders in children and 560,000 cases of hypertension in adults each year in the U.S. alone.

In the first quarter of 1993, the EPA released a first-time report that showed the results of the new “test at the tap” requirements for lead in drinking water. The report documented that in America, 42 states exceeded the legal limits of lead in drinking water and that other states failed to do the required testing. Some areas had lead levels in excess of 450 parts per billion, thirty times the legal limit of 15 ppb. The level the EPA has set as the safe level, or MCLG (maximum contaminant level goal) is -0- ppb.

Essentially, every household with indoor plumbing has some level of lead in the plumbing structure that may represent a health risk.

U.S. drinking water contains more than 2,100 toxic chemicals that can cause cancer.
–Ralph Nader Research InstituteThe following report summarizes factual information on tap water quality and the effects of tap water on human health. For information on bottled water quality and the misconceptions surrounding it, refer to the lifestyle tab above.

Our hope is that you will take a moment to review this valuable information and consider the facts. We are not trying to scare you, we are only trying to inform you of the threats to our environment and health that became the driving force behind the formation of our company. Increased awareness of this serious issue can only benefit us all.

We also hope that you will review the product information about Aquasana Pure Water Systems, the highest-rated home water filtration products in America. After reading this page you can tour the rest of our site for additional topics of interest or visit the product catalog for great savings on Aquasana purchases. Once you have all the facts, the decision is easy. Even if you don’t buy one of our water filters, please buy a water filter. There is no such thing as a bad water filter. Thank you for coming this far!

The causes of tap water contamination are many, ranging from agricultural runoff to improper use of household chemicals and everything in between. Few of us realize the extent or impact of these low level synthetic chemicals in the water we use. While the standard use in our society of over 80,000 different synthetic chemicals has led to added convenience and productivity in our lives, these come at a tremendous price… drastic increases in degenerative disease.

In the early 1900s, before the prevalence of chlorine, pesticides, herbicides and the tens of thousands of other chemicals that we are exposed to every day, the average American had a 1 in 50 chance of getting cancer, today one out of three people can expect to get cancer in their lifetime, one out of two males.

Our use of man-made chemicals has become so extreme that we can now find traces of these low level SOCs (synthetic organic chemicals) in virtually every public water supply around the world. A recent report by the Ralph Nader Study Group, after a review of over 10,000 documents acquired through the Freedom of Information Act, confirmed that “U.S. drinking water contains more than 2,100 toxic chemicals that can cause cancer.”

We’ve learned that any chemical we use in our society will eventually wind up in our water supply. There is no “new” water! Our planet reuses the same water over and over. And as our use of SOCs increases, so does the toxicity of our water. Earth’s natural filtration process is not effective at removing these toxic SOCs, nor is municipal water treatment. Industry, agriculture and individuals all contribute to the problem. Many of the contaminants found in water can be traced back to improper or excessive use of ordinary compounds like lawn chemicals, gasoline, dry-cleaning solvents and cleaning products.

Once we realize that everything that goes down the drain, on our lawns, on our agricultural fields or into the environment by any means eventually winds up in the water we drink, we begin to see just how vulnerable our water supply really is.

Our municipal water treatment facilities do not remove SOCs and typically consist only of sand bed filtration and disinfection, like a standard swimming pool filter. For the most part, today’s water treatment facilities are much the same as they were at the turn of the last century: they filter out the visible particles and add bleach!

“Drinking water plants are old and out of date, and water supplies are increasingly threatened by and contaminated by chemicals and microorganisms.,” Natural Resources Defense Council.

“The way we guarantee safe drinking water is broken and needs to be fixed,” Carol Browner, U.S. EPA chief.

One of America’s leading authorities on water contamination, Dr. David Ozonoff of the Boston University School of Public Health states, “The risk of disease associated with public drinking water has passed from the theoretical to the real.”

Many illnesses that in the past could not be linked to a probable cause have now been linked to toxins in our drinking water.
“While levels of these carcinogens (SOCs) in drinking water are low, it is precisely these low levels that carcinogenists believe to be responsible for the majority of human cancers in the U.S.,”
U.S. Council on Environmental Quality.

The use of pesticides and herbicides has become so excessive that they are now commonly found in household tap water and bottled water with alarming frequency.

A 1998 study of 29 major U.S. cities by the Environmental Working Group found that all 29 cities had traces of at least one weed killer in the drinking water. The report titled “Weed Killers by the Glass” went on to say that “millions of Americans are routinely exposed to one or more pesticides in a single glass of tap water.”

These first ever tap water testings found two or more pesticides in the drinking water of 27 of the 29 cities, three or more in 24 cities, four or more in 21 cities, five or more in 18 cities, six or more in 13 cities, and seven or more in the tap water of five major U.S. cities. In Fort Wayne, Indiana, nine different pesticides were found in a single glass of tap water!

As a startling side note, it was reported that in these 29 cities, 45,000 infants drank formula mixed with tap water containing weed killers and that “over half of these infants were swallowing four to nine chemicals in every bottle!”

The tragic health effects of consuming these highly toxic chemicals are magnified many times over for small children because their systems are more sensitive and still developing. Small children also consume a much larger volume of fluids per pound of body weight and therefore get a bigger dose, yet none of these factors are considered when the EPA’s maximum contaminant levels are set. The National Academy of Sciences issued a report in 1993 on this subject, stating “children are not little adults” and their bodies are less developed and simply incapable of detoxifying certain harmful compounds.

Another major flaw in the estimated risks of chemicals in our drinking water is the false assumption that only one chemical is being consumed. The regulations are set based on what is assumed safe for a 175-pound adult drinking water with only one chemical present and do not take into account the combined toxicity of two or more chemicals.

In a 1995 Science Advisory Report to the EPA, it was stated that “when two or more of these contaminants combine in our water, the potency may be increased as much as 1,000 times!”

It has been shown that areas with the highest levels of SOCs in their water supplies also have the highest incidence of cancer.

Jacquelyn Warren of the Natural Resources Defense Council commented on the subject, “The one thing we know for sure about toxins in our drinking water is that the more we look, the more we find.”

An increased intake of pure, healthy water will enhance nutrient absorption, weight loss, skin hydration, detoxification, metabolism and virtually every aspect of better health.Natural, healthy weight loss can occur only by increasing one’s intake of pure, healthy water. Water is not only the number-one ingredient for a healthy body on the inside, it also plays the href=”javascript:popWindow(’/pop/pop_lead.html’,400,400)”>lead role in maintaining a healthy and youthful appearance on the outside.

The quantity and the quality of the water we consume determine the body’s ability to metabolize and shed excess fat and properly maintain the largest organ, the skin.

Weight loss is primarily the result of the liver converting stored fat into usable energy. This process not only requires sufficient water intake, but it can be greatly accelerated by consumption of an abundance of clean, healthy water. Water also suppresses the appetite naturally and helps digest food properly.

Increasing water intake naturally speeds up metabolism and allows the body to better assimilate nutrients from the foods and nutritional supplements we consume, the result being natural and healthy weight loss.

When we do not consume enough water, the upper and lower intestine have a reduced ability to absorb nutrients. The result is that most of the value of our foods and supplements is lost and passes through our body with out being absorbed.

Sugars and carbohydrates are absorbed and processed faster than other nutrients, so without an abundant intake of clean water, we can end up getting all the calories without any of the nutrition. Food cravings are primarily the result of nutrient deficiencies; it’s the body’s way of telling us we need something. If our food is not properly digested, then nutrient absorption is not sufficient, and the body keeps telling us we need something in the form of food cravings.“Sixty percent of all Americans are over weight. It’s our number one health problem.” -Surgeon General

A good indication of how much water is enough is to notice how much color is in your urine. Any color at all in the urine usually indicates a water deficiency, resulting in reduced nutrient absorption and a slower metabolic rate.

The quality of the water we drink also greatly impacts the body’s ability to achieve or maintain a certain weight. One of the main functions of the liver is to act as a filter and eliminate toxins from the body. The liver performs this vital process using water in a joint effort with the kidneys. If the water we consume contains chemicals like chlorine, href=”javascript:popWindow(’/pop/pop_lead.html’,400,400)”>lead or agricultural and industrial pollutants, then much of the liver’s energy is spent on filtering contaminants instead of processing fat into energy. Many recent studies have shown a link between consuming chlorinated water and thyroid dysfunction, which can href=”javascript:popWindow(’/pop/pop_lead.html’,400,400)”>lead to weight gain.

All weight-loss programs are based on reduced caloric intake and increased metabolic rate, both of which are naturally achieved with an increased intake of clean, healthy water.

Water is also the key ingredient to keep the skin moist, subtle and resilient. The best way to moisturize is from the inside.

Drinking more water will result in softer, healthier, younger-looking skin. Try it: drink an extra glass of water in the morning, one before lunch and one an hour before bedtime. You’ll be amazed at the results!!!

Truly, water is the key ingredient for healthier skin and natural weight loss.

Other than just being smaller, children’s bodies are really quite different than those of adults.Because many of the crucial defense systems that help protect adults from disease are not fully developed in children, they are much more sensitive to carcinogens, lead and water-borne parasites than adults. Just as medications and other chemical compounds affect children differently than adults, so do contaminants in the air, drinking water and food supply. Unfortunately there is little we can do about toxins in the air or chemicals in food, which only makes the purity of water even more important. Water is the body’s only way to flush out these toxins, and the purer the water is to start with… the higher its capacity is to collect and cleanse these harmful compounds from the body. Pure water helps children’s defenses grow stronger and perform better; giving them the protection they need during those fragile developing years.

Children’s immune and detoxification systems are still developing into and throughout their early teens. Exposure to trace levels of chlorine, toxic chemicals and lead in drinking water during childhood years has been linked to increased risk of diseases and learning disorders in later years. A recent Baltimore study showed that children with high blood-lead levels exhibit a significantly higher rate of problem behaviors than children with low blood-lead levels. This study lends support to the belief that undue exposure to lead in childhood years may have a pervasive influence on the prevalence of juvenile delinquency in this country.
Read More about Lead in Drinking Water.

A mixture of chemicals such as chlorine, lead, herbicides, pesticides and a host of other contaminants is commonly found in the water supply, and in many bottled waters. These trace levels of water-borne chemicals have been documented to have adverse health effects on humans, and especially on small children.

Unfortunately the health standards that determine how much of these toxins are permitted in our drinking water and at what levels are all based on the potential effects oin adults. These Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) are also based on the false assumption that we are exposed to only one chemical at a time. Commonly traces of several dozen different toxic chemicals are found in tap water.

A recent report by the Environmental Working Group, called “Into the Mouths of Babes”, found that of 29 Mid western cities tested, all had at least one agricultural chemical present in a single glass of water, and most had five or more! The report also points out that 45,000 mothers in these 29 cities were unknowingly making infant formula with tap water containing three or more toxic chemicals.
Read More Water Quality Report Information.

Often there are out breaks of chlorine-resistant parasites like cryptosporidium and Giardia in city water supplies, as was the case recently in Milwaukee, when over 100 people died and 400,000 became sick in less than a month, mostly children and the elderly, when the water system became contaminated with cryptosporidium. This intestinal parasite causes flu-like symptoms, and can be fatal to small children and older adults… and is not controlled by chlorine.

Cases of childhood asthma, cancer, leukemia and immune disorders have all risen in the last decade. Many experts and studies suggest that this is partially due to children’s increased exposure to environmental toxins and their decreased ability to detoxify. Water plays a major role in children’s exposure to toxins and in the ability of their bodies to get rid of them.

Children ingest three times as much water per pound of body weight than adults do, so they get a bigger dose of the chemicals in their water, and their developing bodies are simply much more sensitive to the harsh effects…

An increased intake of clean, healthy water is one of the easiest and best ways to help promote good health for our children.

Childhood asthma and many other illnesses have been directly linked to children’s level of exposure to chlorine and other chemicals from drinking and showering with tap water. Home water filtration products are a great investment in the health of our families.

Cure & Prevent Eczema & Other Skin DisordersSkin disorders like eczema, psoriasis, dandruff and chronic dryness are all heavily effected by the moisture content of the skin.

Showering and bathing in chlorinated tap water robs skin and hair of their natural protective oils, causing scaling, itching and bacteria imbalances. Chlorine is a strong oxidant and causes damage to skin and hair even at very low levels. Most tap water maintains a residual chlorine level greater than is recommended for swimming pools, 1.5 ppm.

Chlorine also kills much of the beneficial bacteria on the surface of the skin that offers a natural defense against skin disorders.

By removing chlorine from our shower water, where most of the exposure to chlorine occurs, and keeping our bodies hydrated properly, we allow our body’s natural healing mechanisms to work properly. In many cases shower filtration can help prevent and cure skin disorders. As with most health problems, prevention is usually more effective than treatment.

Asthma PreventionIn the last decade, asthma rates have increased over 100% in adults, over 300% for children! Many experts believe this is due to the decline of indoor air quality. People spend more and more time inside their homes, homes are built much more air tight than in the past and indoor levels of volatile organic chemicals(VOCs) have increased sharply. All of these factors have contributed to the high rates of asthma and other respiratory problems.

Chlorine and other harmful chemicals vaporize into the indoor air primarily from showering and bathing. When chlorine vaporizes and combines with other organic compounds in the air it becomes “chloroform gas”, a strong irritant to the tissues in our lungs. Chloroform gas causes fatigue and constriction of air passages in the lungs.

Many doctors now recommend shower filters or whole home filters for people with asthma and other respiratory problems. The first shower filter was invented after a Texas family discovered that their 6 month old son’s “chronic asthma” was actually a sensitivity to chlorine vapors.

“A long, hot shower can be dangerous. The toxic chemicals are inhaled in high concentrations.” Bottom Line Health, Aug. 1997, J Andelman, Ph. D.

“Ironically, even the Chlorine widely used to disinfect water produces Carcinogenic traces. Studies indicate the suspect chemicals can also be inhaled and absorbed through the skin during showering and bathing.” U. S. News & World Report - 29 July 1991, Is your Water Safe - The Dangerous State of Your Water

“Taking showers is a health risk, according to research presented last week in a meeting of the American Chemical Society. Showers, and to a lesser extent baths, lead to a greater exposure to toxic chemicals contained in water supplies than does drinking water. The chemicals evaporate out of the water and are inhaled. They can also spread through the house and be inhaled by others.” - New Scientist -18 September 1986, Ian Anderson

“The steamy air of a shower contains significant amounts of a least two cancer-causing chemicals that evaporate out of water.”
J Andelman, Professor of Water Chemistry, University of Pittsburgh

“Showering is suspected as the primary cause of elevated of chloroform in nearly every home because of the chlorine in shower water. Chloroform [a known carcinogen] blood levels increase up to 100 times during a ten-minute shower in residential tap water” - Environmental Protection Agency - Dr. Lance Wallace

Shower water filtration can offer genuine asthma prevention and treatment benefits as well as cosmetic benefits.

Chlorine not only does harm to our body when inhaled, but also is absorbed through the skin and causes dryness to skin and hair.
